HOW TO GO HUNTING

I am learning that hunting is one of the main activities of my pack.
Almost every day my older pack-mate, Bob, goes away from our den—I am sure it is to hunt. Then when he comes back I can smell that he has been places and has been
with others. Often, when he returns, he smells like food. Sometimes he brings food back to the den, and I get a taste, or I get to have a piece of duck meat out of the barrel.

Well, I have been watching closely when Bob gets ready to go hunting. I think I have figured out some of the important things about going hunting.

First, one must wash all the old smells off of your body. (I guess this will somehow help to make me able sneak around unnoticed when I am outside hunting.

Second, I will have to shave the fur off of my face. (This probably will help me as I silently flow through the woods, following the scent of the animals.)

Third, there is a special scent you must place on the part of your face that is now without fur. I think this is used to confuse the animals, because it really smells strong. Yuk, it makes me sneeze. I hope I don't have to put that stuff on my face!

Fourth, I will need to put on a disguise. Bob puts on a special set of clothes that match in color. I think it helps him blend in to the woods. He calls it his suit. (He has a blue suit, and a brown suit, and a gray suit. I don't know yet where I can find a suit
to fit me. But he wears it when he goes out hunting, so it must be important!)

Fifth, Bob always puts coverings, called shoes, on his feet when he goes out hunting. I think I know why he does that--his feet smell so bad he tries to cover them to keep from leaving a trail. But, I can follow his trail whether he wears shoes or not, so I do not believe he is fooling the animals. My feet do not stink, so I will not
cover mine.

Some day I may get to go hunting. And, if I keep watching Bob get ready, I know I will be a good hunter, too.
