HOW TO LOVE A DUCK

One of my favorite things in the world is my little yellow stuffed duck. Well, actually, I have about five of them and I change my mind about which is the best one.

When I was a little puppy, I liked to chew my duck. I would get so involved in the chewing, that my first duck was chewed to pieces. My second duck is now just a kind of egg shaped yellow ball—no beak, no eyes, no wings, no legs, no tail—it is just an odd yellow ball that quacks! But, I learned that you should not chew them to pieces. All my other ducks look like ducks, and I love that. I have a little tiny one that totally fits in my mouth—when you look at me holding it, you can't tell that it is in my mouth. And I have other ones of different sizes—some newer and some older. One is so old and dirty that it isn't even yellow anymore!

My ducks have friends that talk, too. I have a frog that goes ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, ribbit; and a cow that goes moo, moo, moo, moo, moo; and a big hedgehog that just goes burp every time you squeeze it.

One thing I have learned about the pack when I was a puppy: When I make the duck talk—quack, quack, quack, quack, quack—they notice me and sometimes would give me a treat. Now, I have them trained very well. Here is what you need to do: Find your favorite duck (or maybe just the nearest one—remember I have about five of them). Take the duck to Lain. Make the duck go quack, quack, quack, quack, quack. Then sit there and look pretty. She will give you a treat almost every time!

It is important that you leave the duck in a very visible place, so you can easily find it next time you want a treat. Also, leave a duck within easy reach, so you do not have to go far to find one.  So, I usually have one in the bedroom doorway, one in the family room, one in the bathroom, one near the kitchen, and especially I try to keep one by Lain's chair.

I don't know how I could live without my ducks. Sometimes I am so happy, I'll just make one quack, quack, quack, quack, quack just for fun. Oh, I do love my duck.
