THE SQUEAKY THING

I walked into the room. I knew Billie had been here. I could smell her smell. I think my friend Oscar the Dashound had been here with her. But they were gone now. I noticed a cage. I know a cage when I see one. Dogs are sometime put into cages. I don’t like cages. This cage was much smaller than any cage I had seen before. Somewhere there must be a very small dog, who was going to be put into that cage!

Kenzie came into the room. I like Kenzie. She knows how to scratch behind my ears just right. She also gives gooood belly rubs. She was carrying something that was wrapped up in a towel. It smelled funny. It smelled different from anything else I had ever smelled. It wiggled and made some noise. It said, “wee, wee, wee,” sort of a whistling sound. Kenzie showed the thing to Lain. Lain thought it was cute! Huh, cute, that is a word for me, not some stranger. Kenzie put the thing into the cage. Well, at least it wasn’t going to be some little dog that is caged up. Kenzie then showed Lain what the thing was going to eat. Kenzie left! She didn’t take the thing! The thing was staying and Lain thought it was “CUTE!” This I must take care of fast. I AM THE CUTE ONE AROUND HERE!

I tried to ignore it. Maybe it would just go away. No, that didn’t work. Well, I’ll take a look at it up close to really check it out.
It makes little whistling noises. It runs around in that cage. It is the same color as me! It’s cute! Oh no, now I’ve said it. But yet, it is cute. When I put my paws up on the edge of the table and peek over the top I can see it. It makes little squeaky sounds and puts its’ nose close to the bars so that it can smell me. It still smells like something I’ve never known, but it is friendly.

When Bob gets home, I find out that it is called a Guinea Pig. Now that’s a funny name. Bob think it’s cute, too! The Guinea Pig, Charlie, is going to stay with us while Kenzie is gone on vacation.

This is turning out to be great fun. Charlie gets to come out of the cage sometimes. I get to sniff him! Hmmm, he smells good! He is a new smell. I like new smells. He eats carrots. I like carrots so I ask for one of my own. Yep, Lain gave me my own carrot! This little Charlie could be a ticket to good treats! He likes apple and banana, too! I get some when he does. Yep, he is a plus for snack time. BUT I don’t like his lettuce and celery and spinach and green stuff. How could any one like that stuff?

Charlie is taking a nap. I’m outta here.

I’ve got sniffing to do. Talk to you later,
